I have a confession...I love making New Year's Resolutions. Doesn't matter if they are trivial (wear more jewelry ) or profound (be a better person), I love the feeling that with a new year comes a new start.
I needed that this year. After working on becoming a fitter, healthier, skinnier me for a year and half, I hit the wall. I lost the motivation that had carried me through so many bike rides and meals and fell back on my old habits. Yes, I was under stress and that was certainly part of it, but mostly, I just ran out of steam. I didn't want to watch my diet any more, I didn't want to get up early, or go to class or do pretty much anything but play video games and watch tv (and bake entirely too many batches of amazing cookies).
So, I gave myself a deadline. Self, I said, you get 'til January 1, then, back to it! I still had the same goals and aims for the new year that I had listed for myself a few weeks back, but I was doing nothing to get there. Obviously that had to stop. Still, much like taking a week off to recharge, I think I needed some time to just not worry about losing weight or getting faster. I'm not going to lie, it did some damage...but not a lot. I am up five pounds or so from my lowest, and my running has definitely taken a bit of a step back, but all in all, not bad. More importantly, I feel re-energized My focus is back and I'm excited to be stepping out of the house to go for a run again.
So, what about those resolutions? Well, I made quite a few, but I'll share some of the big hitters. 1) Eat out only 2x per month...that one has pretty much already hit the dust. Still, I think I've accomplished my general goal of being more aware of how often I eat out. 2) Get the stars. I give myself a star on the calendar when I do my workout for the day...so far, doing pretty good.
3) Run a 1/2 marathon or two. Might even get an obnoxious magnet for my car if I do that one!
Right now, I'm trying to figure out how to allocate my limited entry fee funds for all the things I'd like to do this year and doing my best to figure out how to make my workouts as effective as they can be. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to do a lightened schedule for the next week or two due to a minor surgery I'm having, but after that it's a race to the Spring.
