I would like to start out by saying that weather.com totally told me I had until 6:30 or 7:00 before the rain came. Having said that, this is what I saw roughly 5 miles from town on my return route:
So, yeah, I got pretty wet. The funny thing about rain is that it hurts a lot for something that is supposedly a liquid. This is especially true when you are flying along at 20 mph trying (in vain) to avoid getting soaked down to your chamois. Still, it was at least a warm rain, and the lightning wasn't too close.
Annoyingly, I would have completely missed the rain, but I spent 45 minutes after work hemming and hawing over whether or not I really wanted to go for a ride. As far as I can tell, that 45 minutes was how long it took for my post-work Luna bar to hit my system, because after that I was fine. Intervals were on tap for the ride, starting off with an attempt to best my previous time on the Rose Street Strava segment. Whoo boy, did I do that...not only did I get a PR, I also beat the only other time on the segment, which was set by a dude, who I shall choose to believe is an awesome cyclist. So, you know, happy dance.
After killing myself on Rose Street, I decided to do intervals in 2 mile breaks. So, 2 miles all out, 2 miles resting, repeat. I got three (?) in before the rain started, and after that I was too concerned with making sure I could see to mess around with trying to keep track of distances.
Workout: 20 ish miles / 16.4 mph average
